First-Gen Con

Hosted by the Center for First-Generation Success, and in partnership with the J. Willard Marriott Library, this conference offers a unique platform for:

• Sharing diverse perspectives: First-generation students, faculty, and professional staff will engage in an open exchange of experiences, concerns, and accomplishments related to navigating the university environment.
• Inspiring dialogue and collaboration: Interactive sessions will move beyond traditional presentations, facilitating meaningful discussions, and exploring practical strategies to enhance first-gen student success.
• Building community and belonging: We aim to create a welcoming space where individuals can connect, share vulnerabilities, and celebrate their unique journeys.

First-Gen Con addresses a broad range of topics, such as accessing campus resources to navigate social and academic challenges, fostering belonging, overcoming systemic barriers, and cultivating first-gen success through teaching and support services. We encourage diverse perspectives and welcome all formats of expression, including slideshows, artistic performances, and media presentations.
