First-Gen

About Our Office

25% of undergraduate students at the U identify as first-generation. At the U we consider you a first-generation student if your parents, parent, or guardian did not complete a bachelor’s degree in the United States.

The Office for First Generation Access was established in 2019 to promote inclusive culture, relationships, and practices to support the growing diversity of our student body and to maximize opportunities and contributions by and for students. As a student-centered office, we aim to achieve a healthier and more humane campus culture for all students, especially students from historically minoritized populations, while establishing and maintaining the relationships, communities and organizations from which our students hail.
